Meet Janice Maria

" Janice Maria Appropriately named after two dear friends."

Save the Ta-Ta's with C'est Moi! We are participating in Painted Pink(a group of artists who agree to paint a piece pink for charity). For the month of October this cutesy cabinet, Janice Maria, will be on display in shop for the highest bidder to take home. All of the proceeds will go to The Minnie Pearl Foundation. Better hurry, her price tag has already escalated to to $50.

We couldn't possibly think of painting Janice Maria in anything else, but Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Because she is such a special gal, we created a special color just for her. She is a blend of 50% Scandinavian Pink and 50% Old white, and just to keep her our little "French Mademoiselle" we had to do a little gilding too.

Questions Answered

I have a list of questions people have been asking about for over a year. I had originally intended on answering them one post at a time but, like many good intentions, it didn't happen. The first question on my list is "why did you name your shop C'est Moi"? This is an easy one to answer so we will start with it by saying that my husband who is totally romantic speaks French and, let's just say he used it in his repertoire of dating skills to woo me. With the name of the shop being C'est Moi{meaning "It is I" or more loosely "That is sooo me!"} most would naturally think my passion is for French findings. While I love french textiles, furniture and culture, the idea of the shop is more about making your own style and not being tailored to one look.
The second most asked question more recently is "how did you know about Annie Sloan"? My personal style has always leaned more English. About 7 years ago my husband and I built a storybook tudor home. While in construction, I would scour the bookshelves and magazine racks of local book stores looking for inspiration for my new humble abode. That is when I first remember seeing Annie's books. Who would of thought that 7 years later I would be crossing the pond to go train with Annie in her studio! The experience has left me with a truly priceless memory and the opportunity to pass on my newly found paint skills to my customers. Thank-You Annie!

IT"S OUR BIRTHDAY! ..... Thank you Brentwood for embracing all we are and all we want to become!
We are celebrating our 1st birthday this week and in honor of a Fantastic first year we will be having different specials everyday and for my dedicated blog readers..... Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Since the opening of the Maison side in March, we have been very busy gathering and digging up collections that we find worthy to be among our fine offerings as well as our funky junk. We are pleased to announce that as of July 1st we will be the stockist (gotta love the English!) for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

The Best Paint In The World! There is no sanding or priming needed and can be used on furniture, floors, and walls.Don't let the name fool you, this isn't just about making colorful chalkboards. This paint gives the most unbelievable finish to any surface with such ease. You'll be wanting to "Sloan" even the smallest of projects. Did I mention you can chalk up your outdoor projects as well? You can, all while being environmentally friendly.

Here at C'est Moi, we love Annie's Slogan..." This is a girl's paint (but boys can use it too)!" You'll love painting so much, who would want to share with them!?

We are so excited to have the opportunity to offer this fabulous new product. Having trouble understanding our enthusiasm well, coming in September you can take a technique class, and then you'll see ....even that old piece of furniture Auntie Ethel left you could be stunning .

You can keep them in Provence

Here at C'est Moi we have always loved the inspiration that the French pull from the countryside. Beautiful blues, sunflowers and until recently insects like Bee's and Cicada's .
While knowing that the cicada symbolizes summers in Provence and that they are considered to be lucky, I'm having a hard time embracing them. I think it's fair to say I have found my first thing FRENCH I can live without .
The ormolu and textiles which these little bugs have inspired has taken on a new light, I'm not sure I will ever be able to look at them again without thinking of the summer of 2011.
Let me explain.... I live in an area of Nashville dubbed "Green Hills" which is an older more established part of town and like the name says, it's very green and happens to be where these critters like to hang out! So until mid June when they leave or die or whatever it is they do I guess I'm going to consider myself very lucky and welcome summer French style with the deafening sound of the cicada.

Why DID the chicken cross the road

Couldn't refuse this sign . We had to put it next to little Jimmy our vintage concrete rooster . Chicken , Rooster, or human sometimes we all have our motives questioned .

Customer. Client. Friend.

This week my role as shopkeeper has been a very personal one. I can't help but think of this quote by Mark Twain which has been weighing heavy on my heart. Who would have known that in such a short amount of time so many frequent faces would become more than customers.

How wonderful it is to have such purpose driven clients.

Trů Bee local honey fresh from the farm. You know what they say, a teaspoon a day keeps the allergies away.

Beekeepers, Laura and her husband Jeff from Arrington, take pride in their "free range" bees. Because they let their bees roam, they are healthier and so is the honey, and because they are LOCAL, we consider them our new local artists. After all, beekeeping is an art..right?

Three ways to add a personal approach to decorating

Up-cycled. Faded. Recycled.

Ready to tear away from the cookie cutter modern look or the more traditional style? If it's tattered a little here and torn a little there, your look may just be faded elegance.

Made from an old french bushel basket, this light fixture was once a necessity for farmers, now it's what we consider recycled. In essence we are putting a contemporary spin on a country style.

This hand-carved English chair, recovered with a cotton Dash & Albert rug, is the perfect example of Up-cycling. Take something old and add a touch of new.

Whatever your style, allow your home to reflect your own interests and express your personality.

I have been tagged by my fellow shopkeeper friend, Paige from Hodgepodge.(My favorite little go-to store in Clarksville,TN.)So, apparently I am suppose to share 7 facts about myself that you might find interesting, and some famous fellow has named this venture a "meme".

1. My addiction to junking doesn't stop with funky things, I also require a steady diet of Dark Chocolate.

2. Unlike my friend Paige, I would be more likely to reschedule a dentist appointment than to miss my standing appointment for a massage. After all, haulin' and luggin' for this shopkeeper, really takes it's toll.

3. Green is my favorite color. Chippy cupboards, vintage wallpaper, old glassware, and textiles..if it's green its my weakness.

4. I love to garden. My favorite flowers to grow are my big blue mop hydrangeas. Although, I couldn't possibly have a garden without variety.

5. I'm an English Home Magazine junkie. I love to pile up in the bed with all my volumes and read the estate ads. As boring as that may sound, the English language mixed with my love for cottage style homes, is my interpretation for the perfect peaceful moment.

6. I have a pretty extensive bucket list, but this is the one I am working on at the moment. I would like to show up at the airport with empty suitcases in hand, and book the next available flight, wherever it is going, and go junkin' 'til I fill my bags.

7. I have a closet that would scare even the most experienced mothers of teenagers. I will spare you the picture.

(I'm pretty sure MiMi saw my closet.)

Here is the fun part! It's time to pass it on... Let's see if we can get Three French Hens, Bluebird Notes, Queen Of Tarte to play along.
