Introductions Are In Order

We are pleased to introduce Florence, the newest addition to CHALK PAINT™ by Annie Sloan!  A beautiful malachite-inspired color, Florence is vibrance and sophistication all in one.  And you don't have to wait long to add it to your collection.  It will be on our shelves tomorrow--Friday, June 15th!

If you've already tried your hand at CHALK PAINT ™  and feel like you're ready to learn something new, we have the workshop for you!

We'll be covering four advanced techniques.  First, you'll learn how to create a stunning shabby chic effect by layering different stencil designs.

Next comes silver or gold gilding wax.  Learn how to apply it to your stenciled piece to create a soft, glamorous shimmer.

For those who enjoy a more antiqued look, we look forward to introducing you to CRAQUELEUR™ by Annie Sloan!  It is a two part water-based crackling medium that produces a gorgeous aged effect on painted surfaces. Come learn how to combine it with CHALK PAINT™ to create the perfect timeworn piece for your home!

Finally, we'll be creating texture with CHALK PAINT™ by thickening it to an impasto form. Impasto refers to the paint itself, which becomes very thick, and the layering technique used with it.  This method adds richness and depth to even the most plain, flat surface.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 11 from 9am to 1pm.  We would love to see you there!

Work, Work All Month Long

For many, summer is the time to relax in the shade or splash around in the pool. For us, summer means workshops!

Anyone who has been in C'est Moi has seen Kellie Montana's artwork all over the shop. It is absolutely fabulous, whether it's in a large ornate frame...

or so small it almost fits in your pocket!

We are excited to announce that Kellie will be teaching at C'est Moi this month!  Come learn how to hand tint your own photo and stencil the frame, for a unique piece of art that's all your own.  The workshops will be Tuesday, June 26th and Friday, June 29th, from 9am to 1pm.  The price is $145 and includes all supplies.

In addition to Kellie's workshops, watercolor artist extraordinaire Wendy Day will also be sharing her amazing talents with us!  Wendy will hold her painting workshop on Friday, June 15th from 10am to 12:30pm. Supplies are included in the $75 fee.

Call us at 615-457-3579 or come in the store to sign up.  We hope to see you at one or both workshops in the next few weeks!

Re-Vamp Your Lamp

Take a quick glance around your house. See any lamps that need a little boost? Perhaps it's a brass number your mom gave you years ago or a bright blue base that just doesn't go with your style anymore. Well, it doesn't have to go in the trash; it's time to make it over!

We will be hosting a workshop at the store on Friday, June 8th, from 10:30 to 12:00 for only $60! No need to bring any supplies; we provide it all! Just bring in your lamp and any inspiration photos you have handy. (Start looking through those magazines and catalogs!)

In just a little over an hour, you'll have a new, stylish home accessory and the skills and confidence to tackle other projects.

Don't stop there, though. We'll be hosting plenty of unique workshops throughout the summer!  Come learn how to turn out fine art with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint or try your hand at watercolors. And stay on the look out for more workshops on how to re-funk your junk!

Clean and Green: Eco-Friendly Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is right around the corner, and we have plenty of gifts perfect for the special day!

Love Heals is a unique family business; when each of their handmade jewelry designs is sold, 10 trees are planted in Ethiopia. According to their website, more than 700,000 trees have been planted so far!

Their business isn't just about the environment, though. Love Heals' jewelry is of the highest quality, and their avante-garde designs are the perfect compliment to a floaty bohemian top or a trendy maxi dress.

If she prefers perfume to jewelry, be sure to consider Lucia Soy Candles. Instead of the standard vanilla or floral scents, they offer elegant combinations like sea watercress and chai tea.

Their gorgeous packaging makes them ideal as a Mother's Day gift, and she'll appreciate their longevity; the farming-collective sourced soy burns cleanly for 50 hours.

Everyone needs a little sweetness now and then, so why not get it in the best form possible? TruBee Honey Straws are a wonderful portable sweetener. Each contains a teaspoon of pure, raw all-American honey. Paired with one of our engraved teaspoons, it's an excellent gift for anyone with a refined palate.

Perhaps you want to take your gift-giving one step Further.  This family-based company truly embraces the idea of reusing and recycling! The husband and wife team pick up depleted waste-grease from restaurants, create biofuel for their cars, and then use the glycerin byproduct to make their signature hand soaps, lotions, and candles. Talk about sustainability!

Each product is infused with fragrant oils of bergamot, olive, and exotic grasses. As they've said, their products will "leave your hands feeling squeaky clean, but will freshen your conscience and inspire your soul."

So whether you're looking for a gift or just want to treat yourself, stop by the shop. We have everything you need!

A New Arrival

We have a new friend coming all the way from England: Annie Sloan paint brushes; they'll be here tomorrow!

These brushes come in three different sizes and are perfect for any Chalk Paint project, whether it's your first attempt or you're a seasoned pro. Their thick, tapered bristles are, according to Annie, "strong and firm, but pliable." It gives you maximum control, reducing brush strokes and helping the paint to go on smoothly.

We'd been saving this piece specifically for our new brushes. It's a six drawer chest with two slim drawers (for gloves, perhaps?)  The pieced veneer created a unique problem; patterns like this can sometimes make it more difficult for the paint to look smooth. Enter the Annie Sloan paint brush...

We decided to use Country Grey and added highlights in Old White, with some light sanding on the edges.

The wax on this dresser is a little bit different. Instead of applying the clear wax first, we applied a blend of 50% clear wax and 50% dark wax straight onto the piece. This creates more of a rustic finish, which works well on this piece since there was a pronounced veneer pattern. The worn look perfectly complements the original bronze hardware--our favorite part of the dresser!

Beware to anyone who wants to try this look; you have absolutely no control over the finished look and you can't remove the dark wax using clear wax, as you normally can. You get one shot to get the look you want, but if you're confident enough to try it it can create a beautiful worn finish.

Remember to come in the shop tomorrow (Tuesday, May 1) to get an Annie Sloan paint brush so you can create your own Chalk Paint masterpiece!

We're packing up the paint and headin' out to Heartsville, Tn for the Strawberry Patch barnsale. The show will be April 27th and 28th 6pm at Starlight Farm. But if you wanna play in the paint with us, you have to be there for the Sneak Peak night April 26th.  For more information, please contact Christy Donoho at 615-388-7799.

Although we hate to leave the Barn sale early, we have to get back to C'est Moi in time for the book signing of Container Gardening For All Seasons by Barbara Wise! We are so excited to have her in the shop  from 1 until 3 pm this Friday the 27th. If you have never heard of the Brentwood Green Thumb queen herself, I am sure you have seen her handiwork in the beautiful containers of several communities developed by Southern Land. We would love to invite you to come meet Barbara and get inspired to go home and play in some dirt.
